The Effects of Post-traumatic Stress on Maladaptation of Disaster Victims Who Experience Fire Damage in Old Age: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Social Support

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the fire disaster victims` PTSD on their maladaptation, and to verify the moderating effect of social support on the association between victims` PTSD and their post-disaster maladaptation. This study used the 2018 3rd round of panel data from the Research on Changes in the Life on Disaster Victims by the National Disaster Management Research Institute. The total of 181 cases were included for hierarchical regression analysis. First, victims` PTSD had statistically significant positive influence on victims` post-disaster maladaptation. Second, social support had significant negative influence on victims` post-disaster maladaptation. Third, the moderating effect of social support on the relation between victims` PTSD and their maladaptation was statistically significant. Implications were provided based on the results.
